Zion Lutheran Church Ministry Opportunities

Adult Education Ministry
Offers adults a variety of topics during the Sunday School hour to help them grow in their faith and life with the Lord.

Altar Guild Ministry
This group is responsible for all aspects of Altar care; including preparing communion, changing paraments, seasonal decorations, and maintaining pew supplies (envelopes, pencils, etc.).

Banner Ministry
Designs and constructs banners reflecting the seasons and special events of the church year.

Bell Choir Ministry
This instrumental group, age 13 and up, plays anthems once a month (Sept. - May), participates in the Christmas Program and community events.  Music is composed and/or arranged by the director.

Benevolence Ministry
Annually reviews the congregation's support of local, national, world ministries, and disaster relief ministry and makes appropriate budget recommendations to the Church Council.  A special benevolence is emphasized each month.

Bereavement Ministry
This ministry provides support to Zion families experiencing grief by furnishing a meal on the day of the funeral/memorial service.

Care Ministry
This ministry promotes physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wholeness.  Services include:  health counseling, education, community resource information, and supportive care (prayer, laying on of hands, etc.).

Choir Ministry
Offers high school youth and adults the opportunity to sing praises to the Lord during Sunday Worship (Sept. - May), at community events, and a program of special Christmas choral music.

Children’s Center Ministry
The Zion Lutheran Children's Center is a licensed child care facility committed to quality education.  Presented in a creative and interactive atmosphere for children 6 weeks through Pre-K.  Each child is spiritually and academically nourished.

Community Care Ministry
This ministry links Zion members with local agencies in need of volunteer support (i.e. Christian Assistance Ministry, Habitat for Humanity, Raphael Free Clinic, Salvation Army, etc.).

Counseling Ministry
The New Hope Counseling Center provides Christian Counseling on an ability to pay basis.  An ecumenical board composed of volunteers from local churches monitors the center’s operation.

Eagle Pass Ministry
Zion members provide support to their mission congregation, Iglesia Lutheran San Lucas, Support consists of monetary contributions and donations of clothing, food, school supplies, etc.

Fellowship Ministry
Plans and coordinates special events such as Church picnics/dinners, sporting events, and other fellowship opportunities.  Hosts and hostesses prepare refreshments for a time of fellowship on Sunday mornings. In addition, this team oversees church kitchen supplies.

Lay Communion Ministry
As an extension of our worship service communion, visits are made to homebound members.  Conversation, scripture, sermon highlights and congregational updates help them remain a part of the Zion family.

Maintenance Ministry
Oversees the maintenance and beautification of church property.

Multi-media Ministry
Members operate the sound and video equipment during services.  They videotape events to be used by shut-ins, etc. and produce a live television broadcast.

Office Support Ministry
Assists office staff with mailings, labeling, and other light office chores as required.

Praise Team Ministry
Blending traditional and contemporary music styles - this ministry uses voice and instruments to worship and praise our Lord both within and outside of the church service setting. We look forward to the evangelical opportunities this ministry brings to the Body of Christ.

Prayer Chain Ministry
Women of the Word Circles provide support through prayer to members, members families, and friends of the congregation in times of physical and/or spiritual needs.  Prayer needs can be made known by calling the contact church person or the church office.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
Women of Zion donate their time and thread to crochet or knit shawls to be given for illness, weddings, baptisms, etc. It is a ministry that can be done at home on your own time with no deadlines. Thread and patterns can be provided. This ministry meets once a month.

Quilting Ministry
A love of quilting and desire for fellowship provides a unique way to raise funds.  Ladies work on quilt for various charitable organizations and Lutheran World Relief.

Return-a-Visit Ministry
Provide guests at our worship services with a personal contact.  Phone contact or visits are made as soon as possible after attendance.

Senior Citizen Ministry (Amazing Grays)
Gather monthly for fellowship, fun, and food.  Field trips and other special events are scheduled several times a year.

Sunday School Youth Education Ministry
Offers continuing Christian education and Bible study during the Sunday School hour for children nursery through 6th grade.

Stewardship Ministry
Annual education provides members with information about time and talent opportunities necessary to form sound giving practices.

Ushering Ministry
The goal of this ministry is to serve Jesus Christ by providing a comfortable and effective worship experience for all those who worship.

Web Site Ministry
Updates and refines Zion’s outreach through the internet.

Women of the Word (WOW)
Women of the Word ministry provides Christian fellowship for all Zion women.  Small groups include:  Cancer sewing, Circle meetings, Bible studies, etc.

Worship Assistance Ministry
Members can assist in the worship serving as lay leaders, communion assistants, or liturgists.
