Zion Lutheran Church
April 14, 2009

Present: Andy Simon, President, Steve Anfinson, Pastor Don Rauhut, Sara McKeon, Jerry Stowe, Mary Vestuto, Jennie Motheral, Bobbie Joines, Donna Jenschke and Martha Kies. Guest Scott Shoemaker and Diane Theis

Call to order by Andy Simon and Jerry Stowe gave the opening prayer and devotional.

Pastor’s Don Rauhut reported on a midweek Prayer Service and Communion Service at the Plaza on the River for many of the members. Pastor Stone would be leading these services.

Scott Shoemaker presented to the Council a proposal of rental of the fellowship hall and the old sanctuary to be $120.00 per month for the NA meetings. The group averaged 50 to 70 members per meeting. Mary Vestuto made a motion to accept the proposal of $120 and was seconded by Steve Anfinson. Motion carried by all.

Diane Theis came before the Council with a request to use the parking lot of Zion as head quarters for the Girl Scout Annual Cookie Drive. In addition to the use of this location, a request to have delivered and set (at the Grace house) of a shed to be used for storage. Steve Anfinson made a motion to accept both the use and installation of the storage shed. Donna Jenschke second. Motion carried by all

Pastor Don Rauhut notified the Council of an incorrect ad in the paper. Sara McKeon will check with paper for rerun with corrected information. Pastor noted attendance down by 40 and there had been 14 deaths in the recennt time frame.

Treasurer’s Report: Reviewed. Motion was made by Jerry Stowe and seconded by Steve Anfinson to apply $1,209.16 (dedicated fd. bldg interest) to principal of building note. Motion carried by all.

Minutes were reviewed and a motion was made by Bobbie Joines to accept minutes as presented with a seconded by Jennie Motheral. Motion carried by all

Andy Simons reported to the Council that a thank you letter is to be sent to Freddie Hannemann for his many years of volunteering and a card of thanks to the Women of Zion for the food and help with so many events. Andy reported there would be a called congregational meeting on May31 and that was also Super Sunday. He led a discussion on the membership roll of the church.. Mary Vestuto and Andy Simon to work on current membership and present to the Council for approval. Andy, reported he would write a letter to the surrounding business not park in the church’s parting lot due to a liability possibility and the use of the entire parking lot for larger groups that gather for training or funerals.

Bobbie Joines made a motion to pay $1,100.00 for Sherry Mikeska and Barbara Dierker to attend continuing education for Sunday School Training. Jennie Motheral the motion to accept and Sandra Yarbrough seconded. Motion carried by all.

Bobbie Joines made a motion to place a suggestion box in the Narthex, Jemrie Motheral seconded. Motion carried by all.

Andy Simon reported that a letter would be written to the parents of Zion to encourage them to bring their children to Sunday school.

The Council closed in prayer led by Bobbie Joines.
