Minutes August 12, 2008 Those Present: Sherri Mikeska, Donna Kelley, Barbra Vanderhoof, Donna Jenschke, Chuck Eissler, A. J. Raso, Bobbie Joines, Steve Anfinson, Andy Simon, Sara McKeon, Pastor David Chancellor, and Beverly Fischer. Visitors: Gerd Rohleder and Nikki Kordzik. Special Guests: David Weden. Meeting called to order by President A. J Raso. Opening Prayer and Devotional: Donna Kelley gave the devotional and opening prayer. Comments from visitors- Gerd Rohleder addressed bell wiring concerns; Verdin’s plans and the wiring available may conflict. Pastor has requested Gerd to contact the company to clarify what wire is needed for the bell to be programmable. Bobbie Joined made motion if cost override is equal to or less than $1500.00, A. J. Raso has the authority to approve this, if greater than $1500.00 A. J. Raso is to bring it back to Council for approval. Barbara Vanderhoof seconded motion. Motion carried by all. Pastor’s Report: Pastor Chancellor reported nominating committee for Council is meeting tomorrow, August 13. The Sunday School curriculum has been ordered, target date is September 7, 2008 to have program in place. Sherri Mikeska is recommended for interim Sunday School Coordinator. Sherri is asked to leave the room, position and salary are discussed. Steve Anfinson made motion to appoint Sherri Mikeska as interim coordinator up to 60 days; during that time she must take leave from council position, stipend of $1200.00 paid monthly ($800.00 monthly salary plus $400.00 additional for two months; extra time required to implement new program) with obligations to report back to Council with recommendations for next steps. Barbara Vanderhoof seconded motion. Motion carried by all. Sherri returned to room, Pastor explained role, responsibilities (Pastor to write job description), stipend, and leave of absence. Sherri agrees to all and accepts the position. As of today the regular scheduled Congregational Meeting is September 7th, recommends moving meeting to October, allowing time for a Special Called Congregational Meeting to nominate a call committee. Donna Jenschke and Sara McKeon agree to write guidelines for call committee and forward report to council members via e-mail. Steve Anfinson made motion to schedule special purpose meeting for September 7, sole topic being selecting a call committee. Donna Kelley seconded motion. Motion carried by all. October 19, 2008 is the tentative date for Annual Congregational Meeting; purpose to approve 2009 Council members and proposed changes to the constitution. Treasurer’s Report: Sara McKeon reported envelope offerings loose and closed, overall is doing better but still a shortage. Bottom-line looks good due to the decrease in payroll taxes; $6000.00 between Dave and Barb, Nicaragua wire transfers to begin. Nikki pay increase has not shown yet. Nikki was asked to leave the room; Pastor recommends increase from $500.00per month to $900.00 for a total three month salary of $2700.00. Council agrees with pay increase. Approval of Minutes: July 08, 2008 meeting, July 22, 2008 special meeting, and August 05, 2008 special meeting were reviewed; Steve Anfinson motioned to approve all three sets, seconded by Bobbie Joines. Motion carried by all. Action/Discussion Items: Constitution - A.J. Raso questioned if time was too short tonight to discuss the constitution, members present agreed; requests comments and questions regarding the constitution be addressed via e-mail between members and David Weden. Bobbie Joines motion to have a special meeting September 2, 2008 to focus on the constitution. Barbara Vanderhoof seconded the motion. Motion carried by all. Committee Reports: Evangelism - Chuck Eissler reported pot luck went well, disappointed in new member attendance. Pastor reported hearing good things about the event. Property - Jerry Stowe not present, A.J. submitted report (copy distributed at meeting). Worship/Music - Barbara Vanderhoof reports choir rehearsal begins August 27, 2008. Family Night is August 16, 2008. Youth- Donna Jenschke and Nikki Kordzik reported Rock the Desert was a huge success. Ten to fifteen youth attended; half from Zion the other half out reach kids. Zion Lutheran Children’s Center (ZLCC) - Steve Anfinson submitted report (copy distributed at meeting). Prayer and devotional for September 02, 2008 meeting will be given by Andy Simon. Prayer and devotional for September 09, 2008 meeting will be given by Harry Hargis. There being no further business to discuss Bobbie Joines motioned to adjourn.
