Zion Lutheran Church
February 10, 2009

Those Present: Andy Simon, President, Steve Anfinson , Jerry Stowe, Jennie Motheral, Mary Green, Sandra Yarbrough, Pastor Don Rauhut, Donna Kelley, Bobbie Joines, Sara McKeon, Donna Jenschke, and Martha Kies.

Meeting called to order by President - Andy Simon opened with a devotional and prayer. Andy reported April 26th was confirmation Sunday and 120 quilts were made by the Women of the Word to be sent to the Lutheran World Relief. Church services have averaged 294 which are 29 down from the average at this time. Income is running $15,800.00 ahead of expenses while building fund reports a surplus of $2,000.00. February 25th begins Lent with Easter Sunday on April 12th.  April 9th -  Feast before Passover Service.

Approval of Minutes: Minutes for January 27thi Called Meeting were reviewed and approved, Mary Green made a motion to accept, Steve Anfinson seconded. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s report: Sara McKeon presented current Treasurer Report. Line item was added to the budget for capital improvements.

Action/Discussion Items: Committee Reports:

January 13th.Chairman of call committee handed out resumes of two candidates for the Council to review. A motion was made by Jennie Motheral and seconded by Sandra Yarbrough to invite the two candidates to meet with the Council. Motion carried

Interim Youth Director: Bobbie Joines made a motion to amend # 6 of the Interim Youth Pastor’s Job Description and Job Performance Review “ to must not use recreational drugs and refrain from the use of alcohol and tobacco in the presence of the youth”. Mary Green made a motion to accept these written changes, seconded by Donna Kelley. Motion carried. Bobbie discussed development of a system to measure the performance of the new Youth Director.

Pastor Don Rauhut reported on Zion’s Super Family Worship Service

a. Everyone comes to one service

b. Proposed every fifth Sunday

Bobbie Joines made a motion to accept the proposed Worship Service and Donna Jenschke seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Fellowship - Sandra Yarbrongh will need help in getting together Lenten meals and will start working on the fifth Sunday Brunch. Donna Lowmiller has agreed to help. Coffee will be served in the Narthex after first service. Council members are encouraged to assist with as many of the meals as possible.

Evangelism - Jennie Motheral wants to reach older members (not age but years of service) include everyone with Evangelism. Get current list of the membership.

Jerry Stowe reported on the Media Group plan to do more. Steve Anfinson made a motion to accept

Guidelines proposed changes with Jennie Motheral seconded.

Children’s Center - Steve Anfinson report all is going well.

Donna Kelley - focus planned in February on Lutheran World Relief, with New Missions in March.

Pastor Don Rauhut reported to the Council that the visit with Congregation Conflict Resolution Team would be on February 16th  at 7:00pm. All Council members are encouraged to attend.
