Youth: Donna Jenschke stated that Nikki would be leaving end of September and that she is concerned about the kids. Donna stated that Nikki has done a great job and that she had lined up programs with support from the parents to get through the year. Donna reported that she had asked Beverly Fischer to help follow up with parents and the youth. Nikki has assisted with planning the youth’s participation in the Chili Cook Off and Zion’s Got Talents scheduled for September 19th and 20th respectfully. Discussion continued regarding the need for a Youth Director and Sunday School Coordinator and the vision for the youth program. Pastor Mike noted that it takes time to establish a strong youth program and that you need to start below high school age. He suggested contact be made with the local university and mentioned the opportunity for a Sunday evening service in the future which would target young people. He also encouraged youth involvement with current services.

Education: Bobbie Joines reported that the Sunday school program is averaging 4-9 youth and 4-8 children in attendance and during the summer 3-8 was the average attending. He also stated that Wednesday evening attendance was 3-9. Vacation Bible School this summer had 65 children who attended with many of those being children from the Children’s Center. Bobbie read the Mission of Parish Ed & Youth along with its objectives and core values.

Benevolence: Donna Kelley reported that the Focus of the Month for October will be Tartu Academy of Theology Estonia . The benevolence budget, year to date is $41,200 and we have given $23, 235 of that budget with $15,065 left to be distributed. There is concern about being able to meet the budget during this time. Financial support to the new mission was budgeted in the amount of $4000 which is the largest item outstanding aside from the monthly contributions to ZLCC, CAM and Cross Trails.

Children’s Center: Steve Anfinson reported that the center is at full enrollment with 86 children. He stated that things were going well and that collections were also reasonably well.

Fellowship: Sandra Yarbrough noted that there were 255 for the Super Sunday meal with lots of positive comments being received. She stated that the next Super Sunday would be in November. Different options were discussed. She also commented that she needed someone for the September 27th Sunday refreshments in the fellowship hall. Sandra is to check on the possibility of having an announcement slide made for Sunday refreshments to encourage people to attend the fellowship and Sunday school activities currently scheduled.

Evangelism: Jennie Motheral reported that the name tag cabinet is full and that currently regular non-member name tags are being stored in the guest cabinet. She also discussed the need for updating the church brochure and how it is used in advertising. Discussion was also held regarding the Chamber of Commerce community calendar which is part of their website which allows us to list services and activities. Steve Anfinson is to verify and update the numbers and contacts with the Chamber.

Property: Jerry Stowe reviewed the request from NA for a Thanksgiving fellowship and meeting. He noted others that use Zion facilities are: AA which meets weekly; Quilt Guild once a month; Zion ladies quilt group, and Weight Watcher’s also meet regularly. Jerry also noted that the repairs for the water leak we had in August, cost of $340 was less than he had anticipated. He also reviewed the report from Dwaine’s A/C & Heating (copy attached) and provided an update on other repairs including the a/c in the old sanctuary, updated emergency lights in the building and bathrooms, and new emergency signs. It was requested that Jerry check on speakers needed for the fellowship hail in order that the sound from the old sanctuary could be heard when meetings or activities take place. Jerry noted that painting to the stucco of the new sanctuary is on hold until water restrictions are lifted. He added that cost of repairs to the Wende House was approximately $580 and that the dead free is to be removed from that property. Jerry also requested a bio and pictures from Pastor Mike so that he could update the website. Pastor Mike stated that he would like to have the couch removed from his office and would like to have a small round table and shelves added for his books.
