Pastor’s Notes...
My final newsletter article:
I do not cease to give thanks for you,
remembering you in my prayers..
Ephesians 1:16
Dear Friends,
If you didn’t receive my recent letter, you may not know that October 3rd will be my last day as your pastor. My plans were to stay a few more months, but I didn’t want to pass up a good job offer which will allow me to stay in Kerrville. For the next nine months I will be rigorously studying to become a financial advisor. This is something which will allow me to use my gifts to help people while at the same time, remain in Kerrville for the good of my family.
I feel so honored to have been your pastor these last six and a half years and wish each and every one of you the very best. Even though I am no longer your pastor, I am still your brother in Christ and friend. I won’t be attending Zion or officiating in any pastoral role because this is the best thing for Zion and your next pastor.
The Pastoral Call Committee and Church Council will be working hard through this transition. Please give them your support, step up and pitch-in where needed, and keep worshipping together.
Here are my direct and last words of “wisdom”: Remember that the Great Commission given by Jesus to Zion is to go and make humble, loving, and obedient disciples of Him. This is your mission. Never allow a few unhappy or dysfunctional people to become the tail which wags the dog. Refuse to listen to gossip and negativity; if you have a problem with someone or something at Zion, let Matthew 18 guide you. Don’t burn out your next pastor by overworking or over criticizing him or her. And most importantly, forgive and love one another just as Christ forgives and loves you.
The Church is about Jesus. If you keep your eyes on Him, Zion will do great things in the future. Enjoy one another and laugh more. God is good and His mercy endures forever.
Thanks for all the wonderful memories. I’ll be rooting and praying for you guys!
Much Love,
David
